If you are in the process of completing a dissertation, you may need to create a dissertation proposal for your review committee.

Writing a dissertation is an arduous procedure. It's not one to be taken lightly. With so much at stake and so much time and effort required, many institutions will require their students to submit a proposal before they begin research. When you have to submit dissertation proposal it is a preliminary step that is intended to help you. Though it may not seem like it at first, the purpose of this proposal is to ensure that you are on the right track before you get started. The last thing you want is to pick a topic that is unsubstantiated for one for which there is insufficient evidence, only to have these realization months after you have started your research.

It will not take long for you to determine whether or not there exist adequate supplies of peer-reviewed articles or other highly reputable and academic sources. In some cases there is sufficient information available, but it supports the opposition. In this case you will need to redefine the parameters of your project.
  • For many institutions the proposal is a formal process, one which requires a formal document. This document should include a standard cover page with your university information, your name, and your advisor. It will then contain an abstract. Following this there is an explanation as to the methodology we will be using, the materials you require, the existing literature, and what contributions your efforts will make for your field.
